At the end of the summer of 2006, 2 pilots from St Hilaire, France, made what could be the most incredible Vol-Bivouac flight in the history of paragliding. The story has already made it out to most of the free flight magazines around the world, so you may have already read about it, but a summary of their adventure follows:
Phillippe Nodet and Julian Wirtz, two instructors from the home of the world famous flying festival, the Coupe Icare, circumnavigated Nanga Parbat and flew almost 500km around some of the most intense mountain terrain on the planet with their special lightweight Addict R wings.
The two crossed the world’s largest alpine glacier system, flew over the Trango Towers, and spent a lot of time above 7000m on their Addict R’s. They reported that although the conditions were insanely turbulent at times as they were in absolutely massive thermals at high altitude, the Addict’s held up great and proved to be very stable, with good enough glide to cross the valley systems that were sometimes 40km wide.
