Saturday 7. 7. 2007

Saturday's forecast looks rather promising. The task is 91 km overall with several turn points - on the ridge towards Feltre, a bit to the flatland, further towards the lake and finally to the goal.

At 11:20, the first free-flyers are starting. They are battling for almost 40 minutes in broken bubbles till the thermals get strong enough to allow to go XC.

The window is open at 13:10 and the aerial start is set to 14:30 around Monte Serva. Conditions gradually change from promising to more complicated, the hills behind the dam and the famous "razor blade" rock get in the shadow of a cumulus layer with base at 1700-1800 m. The progress of comp pilots gets more difficult. Many land near the dam, and only the fastest get back to the Dolada ridge.

Finally nobody got to the goal, the best group consisted of David Ohlídal, Tomáš Brauner and Luděk Procházka - landing only 3 km short. Broken thermals made the flight of Hanka Matyáskova rather interesting, when she had to solve the complications following a massive frontstall when on speed bar with three fullstalls. No other incidents were reported :-).
