Bivouac in Brazil
Already this week we are leaving to the north-east Brazil for an interesting expedition. Many of you heard about XC competition X-Ceará in Quixada or ultimate record flights from Patú. I enjoyed the hospitality of X-Ceará in 2002 and experience from this event stays in my mind as "cross country flying without compromises". We want to try now to fly and travel there on own hook without any organization.

After arriving and acclimazation for the local windy and hot climate we would like to reach the Tacima take-off west from the Natal city. We want to start there with all the equipment and fly toward the Patú 230 km from Tacima. From Patú another 195 km to the Quixada, further 200 km to the Sobral and finally last 100 km perhaps with crosswind to the coast. Is it possible? We will see...
Totally about 700 kilometres of strong winds, hopefully huge thermals and especially nice adventure on the ground with locals. Mayby we will change the route if we will have to, it will depends on the conditions there.
We would like to fly the most of distance and the rest cover by hitchhiking, by buses or another kind of transport. We believe in famous local thermic conditions, respactable winds and of course a lot of luck...
This is for sure uncummon trip, as the north-east of Brazil is unhospitable for foreigners. The most important thing during the X-Ceará competition or record flights is a good retreive with task to pick up the pilots from the arid area to the comfort of civilization. We want to fly this bivouac without any ground retrieve, sleep in houses of locals and move further by any means of transportation :-)
See you on Christmas with a lot of photos and story from the brazilian XC paradise :-)
